Our most recent KATU appearance features Touchmark in the West Hills resident Fran Warren, who is a founding member of the Tree Keepers of Washington County. Fran is a great educational resource and advocate of the environment. Last week, Fran led a walk of The Cedar Mill Wetlands with fellow Touchmark residents, explaining about the different trees as well as the importance of preserving the tree canopy.
FAIRWAY/164th — The 15th annual Touchmark at Fairway Village Car and Music Festival set a Father’s Day Weekend record. More than $12,000 was raised for the Alzheimer’s Association and Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon, and donations are still being received.
Faith Johnson, the newly-crowned Miss Montana 2023, visited Touchmark Senior Living Community in Helena on Monday to meet the residents.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Bob Thompson and his wife Jeanette Greve of Sioux Falls are dressed to the nines and for good reason: they’re going to prom.
“Without my wife’s help, I would still be getting ready,” Thompson said. “Had to put my tux on which I hadn’t put on since probably in the 90s.”
PORTLAND, Ore. — The third graders at West Tualatin View Elementary in the Beaverton School District have been writing back and forth with a group of seniors all year.
“We’ve just been writing notes to our pen pals and finally now we get to meet them which is really cool because we never really know what they look like until now, and we never knew what they sound like or any other attributes like how they act or anything,” says Lydia Chen, a 3rd grader at West Tualatin View.
The Touchmark in the West Hills Life Enrichment/Wellness team did a fantastic job planning and orchestrating this event, which brought this year's Rose Festival princesses (all of whom are high school seniors) to Touchmark to meet with the 1947 Rose Festival queen and Touchmark resident Georgene Ormston Koontz. It was very inspiring seeing Georgene and the princesses connect and bond over their shared experiences, and everyone in attendance felt they were witnessing something truly special and meaningful. Thank you to the Rose Festival for being wonderful partners in the community!
This year’s Pole Pedal Paddle features new and familiar faces competing, but there’s one team testing their athleticism even in their golden years.
“My age helps the team win the mugs this year,” says 87-year-old Hilary Kenyon, a Pole Pedal Paddle participant. “I’ve always done the kayaking because to me it’s the safest.”
OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) – It’s always special to talk to a World War II veteran, and on this week’s Hometown Hero, 97-year-old Paul Klemmer has pages filled with memories from his time in the army.
“I grew up in Oshkosh on Lake Butte De Morts. When I was seven years old, the great depression hit,” said Klemmer. “We used to go out and work on farms for a dollar a day. You did what you had to do.”
